A COURT MURAL PROJECT

Client: We the West Basketball Festival

Outside the Lines was the realization of 10 large scale basketball court murals acting as a main component of the We the West Basketball Festival - a three week celebration leading up to the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Combined, these events represent the largest sporting and cultural event in Canada in 2021. 

This 3,500 sq. ft. mural celebrates Greater Victoria’s historic Chinatown by featuring a vibrant, fluid dragon that appears to float above the basketball court, symbolizing power, strength, and good luck. Ultimately, the piece aims to activate the public space and foster a deeper connection with the city’s Chinese heritage outside of the traditional Chinatown core, showcasing the community’s resilience especially during a time of rising hate crimes.
